HouseofTech Innovation Pvt Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”, or the “Company”) operates the PocketPDF application and related services (the “App”).

PocketPDF is a pocket PDF toolkit. It lets you import, read, and organise PDF documents; merge, split, reorder, rotate and remove pages; compress files; convert photos and scans into PDFs; scan documents with your camera; add stamps, watermarks and page numbers; annotate, fill forms and sign; and — on a paid plan — back up and sync documents to the cloud and ask AI questions about a document. Certain features are available only to PocketPDF Pro subscribers.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect your information when you use PocketPDF, wherever in the world you use it.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide Directly

• Account details — your mobile number, which you enter to receive a one-time password (OTP), and the OTP itself. We do not use passwords; sign-in is by OTP verification.
• Documents and files — PDFs, photos, and camera scans you import into the App. These are stored on your device. They are transmitted to us only if you enable cloud backup for that document, or use Ask AI on it.
• Content you create inside the App — folder names, document names, bookmarks, annotations, stamps and watermark text, form entries, and saved signatures. These are stored on your device, and are included in a document’s cloud backup if you enable it.
• Questions you type into Ask AI, together with text extracted from the document you selected.
• Subscription and billing-related details if you purchase PocketPDF Pro.
• Feedback, support queries, or communications you send to us.

B. Automatically Collected Information

• Device information: device type, operating system, app version and build number, IP address, unique device identifiers, language and region settings.
• Usage data: features used, tools run, and in-app navigation (recorded as events, not as the contents of your documents).
• Performance data: crash reports, diagnostics, and error logs.
• Approximate location derived from IP address, used for regional pricing and currency and for legal compliance.
• Analytics data collected via third-party tools to improve the App.

C. Permissions the App May Request

• Camera — only when you choose to scan a document or scan a QR code to import a PDF link. We capture only the frames you scan; we do not record video, and the camera is not accessed in the background.
• Files / photos picker — when you import a PDF or pick images to convert. We receive only the specific files you select.
• Storage — to save the PDFs the App produces on your device.
• Notifications (optional) — for service messages such as backup or renewal notices.

D. Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not scan, index, or upload your device’s file system or photo library. Only the files you explicitly pick enter the App.
• We do not read the contents of documents you have not backed up or run through Ask AI.
• We do not access your contact list, call logs, SMS, or microphone.
• We do not collect government IDs or biometric identifiers. A drawn or typed signature saved in the App is an image you create, stored on your device.
• We do not store your full card details — payment information is handled directly by our RBI-licensed payment gateway partners (such as Razorpay and PhonePe).

2. How We Use Your Information

• Verify your mobile number by OTP, create your account, and keep you signed in.
• Provide the PDF tools you run — merge, split, organise, compress, stamp, annotate, fill, sign, scan, and convert — which execute on your device.
• Store, restore, and sync documents you have chosen to back up to the cloud.
• Generate summaries and answers when you use Ask AI on a document you select.
• Process subscription payments and manage billing, where applicable.
• Send service messages such as receipts, renewal reminders, OTPs, and important account notices.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorised access, and enforce usage limits and our usage rules.
• Improve App performance, fix bugs, and develop new features (using aggregated or de-identified data wherever possible).

3. Cloud Backup & Sync (Pro)

• Cloud backup is off by default. A document is uploaded only when you choose to back it up, and only if you have an active PocketPDF Pro subscription and are signed in.
• When you back up a document, the file itself — along with its name and, where applicable, its annotations and signatures — is uploaded and stored against your account so that you can restore it on your devices.
• Backups are tied to your account. Access is restricted to your account; other users of the App cannot see your documents.
• You can delete a cloud backup from within the App at any time. Deleting a cloud copy removes it from our servers; the local copy on your device stays until you delete it yourself.
• Our staff do not routinely access the contents of your backups; limited access may occur only for support you have requested, for security investigation, or where legally required.

4. Ask AI — What Is Sent and What Is Not

• Ask AI is used only when you open it and select a document. Nothing is sent automatically.
• When you run a summary or ask a question, the App extracts text from the pages of the selected document (currently up to approximately 24,000 characters per request) and sends that text, plus your question, to our processing service. The original PDF file is not uploaded for this purpose.
• The extracted text is processed by third-party large-language-model providers acting as our processors, under contractual terms that prohibit using your content to train their models.
• We retain AI requests only as long as needed to return your answer and to investigate abuse or errors, and for the retention period stated in section 9.
• AI answers can be wrong. Summaries and answers are generated automatically and are not verified by us. Do not rely on them for legal, financial, medical, tax, or other professional decisions — read the underlying document. See our Terms & Conditions.
• Please do not paste highly sensitive personal data (for example health records, government ID numbers, or credentials) into Ask AI if you would not be comfortable with it being processed by a cloud service.

5. Subscription & Payment Information

• PocketPDF Pro payments are processed by RBI-licensed payment gateway partners (such as Razorpay, PhonePe, or similar providers), supporting UPI & UPI Autopay, credit/debit cards, and netbanking. The active payment gateway may change from time to time without prior notice.
• Each payment gateway handles and stores your payment details under its own security standards (PCI-DSS). We never see or store your full card number.
• We retain only your subscription status, plan, and transaction reference for billing, accounting, and tax compliance.

6. Information Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell or rent your personal data or your documents. We share limited data only:

• With service providers (cloud hosting and object storage, database and authentication providers, SMS/OTP delivery providers, AI model providers for Ask AI, content-delivery networks, analytics infrastructure, payment gateways such as Razorpay and PhonePe, email delivery) under data-protection agreements, and only to the extent needed to provide the service.
• With the recipients you choose — when you share or export a PDF, that file goes to the app, contact, or channel you select, and its handling from that point is outside our control.
• To comply with legal obligations, court orders, or lawful government requests.
• In case of mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring (with notice to users).
• To protect rights, safety, and platform security.

7. International Data Transfers

• PocketPDF is offered worldwide. Our primary application servers are hosted in India (Mumbai region). Some service providers — including analytics and AI model providers — may process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union.
• Where required (for example for users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms for cross-border transfers.

8. Data Storage & Security

• Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Cloud backups and account data are protected with access controls and industry-standard safeguards, and are accessible only through your authenticated account.
• Documents, annotations, signatures, bookmarks, and folders are stored in the App’s local database on your device, and are subject to your device’s own security and any device backup service you use. If you lose or reset your device without a cloud backup, those documents cannot be recovered by us.
• Sign-in uses OTP verification and a session token stored securely on your device. Keep your mobile number and device secure; anyone with access to both may be able to sign in to your account.
• While we take strong precautions, no system is completely secure. Keep your own copies of documents you cannot afford to lose.

9. Data Retention

• Documents on your device are retained until you delete them or uninstall the App.
• Cloud backups are retained while your account is active and the backup exists, and are deleted when you delete the backup or your account.
• Account records (mobile number, subscription status) are retained while your account is active.
• Ask AI request records are retained for a short operational period (typically up to 30 days) for abuse prevention and troubleshooting, then deleted or anonymised.
• Transaction records for PocketPDF Pro are retained for the duration required by applicable tax and accounting law (typically up to 7 years).
• Analytics data may be retained in anonymised form for up to 24 months.
• You may request account and data deletion at any time — see the Delete Account page. Save any documents you need before deleting, as deletion is permanent.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and similar laws, including the right to:

• Access a copy of your personal data
• Correct or update your information
• Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
• Object to or restrict certain processing, and data portability
• Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)
• Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA)
• Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority

11. Children’s Privacy

• PocketPDF is a productivity tool intended for users aged 13 and above; purchases may only be made by users aged 18 and above (or the age of majority where you live), or with the consent of a parent or guardian. It is not directed at young children.
• We do not knowingly collect data from children below the applicable age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Nature of the Service

• PocketPDF is a document tool. It does not certify, notarise, or legally validate any document, and it does not provide a qualified or certified electronic-signature service. A signature or stamp added in the App is a visual mark placed on the file.
• We do not verify the authenticity, ownership, or legal effect of any document you import, edit, sign, or share. You are responsible for the documents you handle and for having the right to handle them.

13. Third-Party Services

• The App may use third-party tools including Google Cloud (application hosting and object storage), SMS/OTP delivery providers, large-language-model providers for Ask AI, Razorpay and PhonePe (payments, where applicable), and analytics services.
• These services operate under their own privacy policies.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

• We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
• Significant changes will be communicated through the App.
• Continued use of PocketPDF means acceptance of the updated policy.
