Topper · HouseofTech Innovation Pvt Ltd
Last updated: 16 July 2026
HouseofTech Innovation Pvt Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”, or the “Company”) operates the Topper mobile application and related services (the “App”).
Topper is an AI-powered homework help app for school students. A student can type a question, scan or photograph a homework problem, or (where enabled) ask by voice, and Topper returns a step-by-step explanation, worked solution, or study guidance across subjects such as maths, science, social studies, and languages. Some subjects, features, and usage limits are available only to families with a paid subscription.
Topper is used by school-going children, so this Privacy Policy is written for parents and legal guardians. Accounts, sign-in, and purchases are reserved for a parent or guardian. We collect as little as we can, we do not show third-party advertising, we do not build interest profiles of children, and we do not sell or rent anyone’s data. By allowing a child to use Topper, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not let your child use the App.
1. Device Permissions We Use
Permissions are used only to deliver the feature your child asked for — to read a homework question and return an explanation. They are not used to read personal files, listen in the background, or track anyone.
- Camera (optional) — used only when your child chooses to scan or photograph a homework question or textbook page. The camera runs only for that capture, at your child’s request. Your child can decline and type the question instead.
- Photos / media access (optional) — used only to let your child pick an existing picture of a homework question from the gallery, and to save an explanation or worked solution back to the device. We access only the specific image chosen; we do not scan or upload the whole photo library.
- Microphone (optional, where voice questions are offered) — used only while your child is actively asking a question by voice, to convert that question into text. The microphone is not used in the background and does not listen when the feature is not in use.
- Storage — used to save the answers, notes, or worksheets your child chooses to keep for offline study. We only write the files chosen for saving.
- Notifications (optional) — used for study reminders and essential account or billing notices, if enabled.
- You can grant or revoke any of these permissions at any time from your device settings; features such as scanning a question will not work without them.
2. Information We Collect
A. Information Provided Directly
- Parent account details — mobile phone number (for OTP login) and/or email address, or a sign-in identity from Google or Apple (name, email, profile picture as shared by that provider). This is a parent’s account, not the child’s.
- Study profile — limited details needed to pitch answers at the right level, such as class/grade, board or curriculum, subjects, and preferred language. We ask for the minimum needed; we do not require a child’s full name, birthday, school name, roll number, or photograph.
- Homework questions — the text your child types, the image of a question your child scans or uploads, and (where voice is used) the transcribed text of the spoken question. These are processed to generate the explanation your child asked for.
- Subscription and billing-related details when a parent purchases a plan.
- Feedback, ratings on answers, support queries, or communications sent to us.
B. Automatically Collected Information
- Device information: device type, operating system, app version, IP address, unique device identifiers, language and region settings.
- Usage data: questions asked, subjects and topics used, answers viewed or saved, study streaks and progress, and in-app navigation — used to run the study features and improve the App.
- Performance data: crash reports, diagnostics, and error logs.
- Approximate location derived from IP address, used for regional pricing, language and curriculum defaults, content availability, and legal compliance. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Basic analytics to understand which subjects and features are used and where answers fail. We do not run advertising SDKs or build behavioural or interest profiles of children.
C. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not access your contact list, call logs, or SMS, and we do not use the microphone except while your child is actively asking a voice question.
- We do not scan your full photo library or read existing personal files — photo access is used only for the single image your child picks, and storage access only to save what your child chooses to keep.
- We do not use facial recognition, and we do not collect biometrics, government IDs, school records, report cards, or exam scorecards.
- We do not knowingly collect a child’s precise location, home address, or contact details.
- We do not store your full card, UPI, or bank details — payment information is handled directly by our payment gateways (licensed processors such as Razorpay and PhonePe).
- We do not show third-party advertising, use advertising identifiers, or share data with ad networks or data brokers.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Read the homework question your child submits and generate a step-by-step explanation, worked solution, or study guidance.
- Pitch answers at the right class/grade, board, and language level.
- Save your child’s question history, saved answers, and study progress, and sync them across devices where a parent has signed in.
- Process subscription payments and manage billing and usage limits.
- Send essential service messages to a parent, such as OTP, receipts, renewal reminders, and important account notices, and (where enabled) study reminders.
- Keep the service safe: detect and prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorised access, and misuse of the App, and enforce our usage rules.
- Improve answer quality and App performance, fix bugs, and develop new subjects and features (using aggregated or de-identified data wherever possible).
We do not use your or your child’s data for advertising, for profiling, or for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA, GDPR-K & DPDPA)
Topper is intended for school students, used with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. The account belongs to the parent. Children cannot sign up, subscribe, or transact by themselves.
- Any account, sign-in, or purchase is reserved for a parent or guardian and placed behind a parental gate (a check a young child is unlikely to pass).
- Under the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU/UK GDPR (including Article 8 protections for children), and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (including its requirement of verifiable parental consent for children under 18), the data we hold about a child — their study profile, questions, and progress — is processed on the basis of verifiable parental consent, given by the parent when they pass the parental gate and create the account.
- We collect only what is reasonably necessary to answer a homework question and track study progress. We do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more information than is needed.
- In line with the DPDP Act 2023 and Google Play’s Families policy, we do not undertake tracking, behavioural monitoring, or targeted advertising directed at children.
- Parents have the right to review the information we hold about their child, to refuse to permit its further collection, and to have it deleted. Email support@houseoftech.ai or use the Delete Account page.
- If you believe we hold information about a child that was provided without a parent’s consent, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
5. How Homework Questions & Scans Are Handled
- The question your child types, scans, or speaks is transmitted securely and processed for one purpose: to generate the explanation your child requested.
- Artificial-intelligence processing: answers are generated using our own systems and/or large-language-model and image-understanding infrastructure operated by third-party providers acting as our processors under data-protection agreements. They process the question solely to return an answer to us, and are contractually prohibited from using it for their own purposes.
- We do not permit your child’s questions, scans, or voice input to be used to train third-party AI models.
- Please ask your child to photograph only the homework question. Topper does not need — and you should not submit — images containing faces, names, addresses, ID documents, report cards, or other personal details. If such an image is submitted, it is treated under this Policy and deleted on request.
- Scans and images are retained only as long as needed to generate and deliver the answer and to show your child’s recent question history, and are deleted from our processing systems thereafter or on request.
- Voice input, where used, is converted to text for the question and is not retained as an audio recording after transcription.
- Safety review: a small number of authorised staff may review a limited sample of questions and answers to check answer quality and detect misuse. Reviewers see the question and an abbreviated account identifier — not your child’s name.
- Answers your child saves or downloads are stored on your own device under your control.
6. Subscription & Payment Information
- Payments are processed by licensed payment gateways — primarily Razorpay and PhonePe — supporting UPI, credit/debit cards, net banking, and wallets.
- Each payment gateway handles and stores your payment details under its own security and privacy policies (PCI-DSS). We never see or store your full card number, UPI ID, or bank details.
- We retain only your subscription status, plan, and transaction reference for billing, accounting, and tax compliance.
- Purchases sit behind a parental gate so that a child cannot buy a subscription. See the Payment & Cancellation Policy.
7. Information Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We share limited data only:
- With service providers acting as our processors under data-protection agreements, and only to the extent needed to run the App: cloud hosting and storage, content-delivery networks, AI/model inference infrastructure, speech-to-text and image-recognition providers, payment gateways (Razorpay, PhonePe), sign-in and OTP providers, and analytics.
- To comply with legal obligations, court orders, or lawful government requests.
- In case of merger, acquisition, or restructuring — with notice to users, and with the same protections continuing to apply.
- To protect the rights, safety, and security of the children using the App, our users, and the platform.
8. International Data Transfers
- Topper is offered worldwide. Your data may be processed on cloud infrastructure located in countries other than your own, including India, the United States, and the European Union.
- Where required (for example for users in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms for cross-border transfers.
9. Data Storage & Security
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS); stored account, question-history, and progress data is protected with access controls and industry-standard safeguards, and access rules restrict each account to its own data.
- Content is delivered over secure cloud infrastructure and content-delivery networks.
- Access to children’s data by our staff is limited to those who need it for support, safety, or answer-quality review, and is logged.
- While we take strong precautions, no system is completely secure.
10. Data Retention
- Account, study-profile, question-history, and progress data is retained while the account is active.
- Homework images and scans are retained only as long as needed to generate and deliver the answer and to show recent history, then deleted from our processing systems. Answers saved to the device live on your own device under your control.
- Voice input is not retained as audio after it is transcribed into the question text.
- Transaction records are retained for the period required by applicable tax and accounting law (typically up to 7 years).
- Analytics and diagnostic data may be retained in anonymised form for up to 24 months.
- You may request account and data deletion at any time — see the Delete Account page. Deletion is completed within 30 days of verification.
11. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), COPPA, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and similar laws, including the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold
- Correct or update it
- Request its deletion (“right to be forgotten”)
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)
- Opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — note that we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA, and we never do so for children
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority
Parents may exercise all of these rights on behalf of their child. Contact us at the email below; we respond within the timelines required by applicable law and never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
12. AI-Generated Answers
- Topper’s explanations are generated by artificial intelligence. AI can make mistakes and may occasionally produce an answer that is incomplete, outdated, or wrong — answers should be checked against your child’s textbook, syllabus, or teacher.
- Topper is a study aid. It is not a substitute for school, a teacher, or a child’s own effort, and it is not intended for use during exams or in any way that breaches a school’s rules on academic honesty.
- Topper is not designed to give medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice, and it must not be relied on in an emergency. See our Terms & Conditions.
- We continually work to improve answer quality. If your child receives a wrong or inappropriate answer, please report it from within the App or email us — it helps us fix it.
13. Third-Party Services
- The App may use third-party tools including Razorpay and PhonePe (payments), Google/Apple sign-in, SMS/OTP providers, cloud storage and content-delivery providers, AI/model inference, speech-to-text and image-recognition infrastructure, and analytics services.
- These services operate under their own privacy policies, and where they process personal data for us, they do so as our processors under data-protection agreements.
- Topper contains no third-party advertising networks and no social-media plug-ins.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
- We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
- Significant changes will be communicated through the App. Where a change materially affects the collection or use of a child’s data, we will seek fresh parental consent.
- Continued use of Topper means acceptance of the updated policy.
